Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club Loriet Open - May 13-15, 2016 by Fabienne Swartz I am proud to announce that I am a sponsor and organizing partner of a semi-professional tennis tournament at the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club (MBYC) starting Friday, May 13!

Whether you are a tennis player, fan, or are simply looking for a socially acceptable reason to day drink, this tournament has it all: men’s and women’s open (pros and college players), women’s and mixed NTRP doubles (recreational players), and champagne.

There’s something about watching elite athletes perform their craft that I have always found inspiring, and I always find myself pushing my own training harder after witnessing such displays. In fact, exercise was one of the main ways in which I came to grips with my own divorce.

First, the activity gets your mind off of the minute details of your life. Second, the endorphins released during exercise have been shown to have mood-boosting capabilities that continue long after the exercise is done. Third, exercise makes you look fabulous—I mean healthy, yes exercise is for health!

Still, both women and men often find working out to be a real drag. They may see the wisdom in being humble at work or home but find the gym experience a little too humbling. They see “the beautiful people” clad in their special, matching gym outfits made of the most cutting-edge materials, and they become insecure about their own appearance. But there is one thing we all can do to earn the respect of our fellow gym mates—if that is your goal: putting in an effort.

The other thing to keep in mind can be found on the walls of almost every gym. When you think somebody at the gym is looking at you, survey the area you are in—are you standing in front of a mirror? Or could it be possible that person is looking at someone near you?

Even if you are sure that someone is looking at you disapprovingly, remember that it doesn’t matter what strangers in a gym think about you. You have every right to be there, to wear cotton sweatpants and cotton shirts, and even to use a portable CD player instead of an iPod or phone.

Will the MYBC Loriet tournament inspire you to exercise? There’s only one way to find out! If you would like to participate, click here!
